Historically, the role of environmental surfaces in the transmission of MRSA has been controversial, although it is now accepted as an important factor in the transmission of MRSA and other nosocomial pathogens.
MRSA (methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus) continues to be a significant problem for many hospitals. It results in increased morbidity, mortality and raises overall treatment costs. Its eradication is made further more complex by the fact that it is catalase positive, which means it is able to break down hydrogen peroxide and as a result is difficult to eradicate using low concentration hydrogen peroxide, utilised in nebuliser/aerosol fogging devices.
Bioquell offer a complete solution for the eradication of MRSA from the healthcare environment.
Bioquell offer an effective, automated and repeatable surface bio- decontamination programme which is designed to achieve total eradication of MRSA.
Working closely with hospital's infection control teams, Bioquell can integrate our solutions with existing MRSA remediation protocols in order to maximise cost effectiveness and eradicate problematic micro-organisms rapidly and efficiently.
Response focussed service provided via a combination of deployment options, each hospital can work closely with Bioquell to identify key areas of concern
What evidence is there that Bioquell can suppress MRSA outbreaks?
Bioquell has been used frequently in MRSA suppression. There are two published examples of the successful use of Bioquell to control outbreaks of MRSA on surgical wards in the UK (Jeanes A, Rao G, Osman M, Merrick P. Eradication of persistent environmental MRSA. J Hosp Infect 2005; 61: 85-86; Dryden M, Parnaby R, Dailly S et al. Hydrogen peroxide vapour decontamination in the control of a polyclonal meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus outbreak on a surgical ward. J Hosp Infect 2008; 68: 190-192).
